Fumigation is the most effective way to eliminate drywood termite infestations attacking your property. During a fumigation Bugmasters uses Vikane; a colorless, odorless gas that has been researched in universities for over 50 years. The gas is nonstaining, noncorrosive and nonflammable. Once the tent is removed Vikane quickly dissipates from the structure into the atmosphere and does not damage the ozone layer.
Fumigation treatments are a three day process. The homeowner will be required to leave the property and will be able to return on the third day after the home has been tested for air quality and certified for re-entry.
The Fumigation works like this:
Day 1Install fumigation tarps and fans. Seal the structure to prevent any unwanted leaks. Release fumigant gas into structure. |
Day 2Fumigation crew will return to the property to start the ventilation process while the tent stays on the property. |
Day 3Fumigation crew will return to remove the tarps, test the air, and certify the house for re-entry. |
After the fumigation is complete the crew will leave a certification on your front door. You need to keep and provide this certification to the Southern California Gas Company or they will not turn your gas lines back on.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Does whole-structure fumigation kill other pests in my home, such as spiders, ants and lizards?Bugmasters calculates the fumigant dosage we use based on the target pest we are eliminating, such as drywood termites. In many cases after fumigation it is acceptable to notice an increase in ant activity. Ants are termite’s natural enemies and the smell of their dead corpses cause ants to become heavily active for a few days.
Will there be any live termites in my home after whole-structure fumigation? If you see a few live termites immediately after your home has been fumigated, don’t be alarmed. Sometimes it take three to five days for all of the termites to die. Rest assured-whole structure fumigation with Vikane ® gas fumigant will eliminate all of the dywood termites in the home.
Does Vikane® gas fumigant negatively affect the ozone layer? No. Sulfuryl fluoride, the active ingredient in Vikane® gas fumigant, is not an ozone-depleting chemical Vikane contains no chlorine or bromine and, thus, does not deplete stratospheric ozone by the known mechanisms. When a structure is aerated, Vikane rapidly dissipates to non-detectable levels. In 2002 Dow AgroSciences was awarded the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. This award recognizes extraordinary achievements, international leadership and innovation in preserving the ozone layer.
